So now Taylor has forced you into doing design work and you’re happy about that?

I am a full stack developer since beginning. Taylor not forced anyone, he simply added options for all.

nazmulpcc 2021-01-09 15:54:09
I really don’t understand why people think they are being forced to something
This is OPEN SOURCE
Anyone has the freedom to do anything

Actually, he sort of limited the options for those who are not like you

It’s important that it’s kept open and consistent. Not opinionated and unpredictable

AMIT 2021-01-09 15:59:47
I am good enough to develop my own themes but taylor has kept it open ended:
Ui/Auth
Laravel Breeze
Laravel Fortify
Laravel Sanctum
Jetstream with Livewire
Jetstream with Interia &Vue
So much liberty, so much options for all. What else do you expect

I expect Laravel to stay consistent. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for

Do you think it is breaking your old code merely adding more options. You still have all old methods. And regarding consistency, a coder should always be ready for changes.

Use 7.5

If I want change so radical, I’ll switch to another framework

Use 7.5

And give up on the security that comes with updates?

nazmulpcc 2021-01-09 16:08:40
Security updates are pushed to each maintained versions. If you stay at 6/7, you will only be missing breaking features not the security updates
And I want to understand how adding separate packages can change your existing workflow.

Last week, I updated a medium sized app from 5.5 to 8 in about an hour

Are you forced to use new version all the time, NO. People still working in Laravel 5.* versions. Its your call either to use or not new version. We are getting new version so frequently because Laravel Team is working so actively, we should be happy.

2021-01-09 16:11:15
It’s open source you can configure the security changes

We should acknowledge that they are working so passionately rather than to criticize them. I am using Laravel 8 with Inertia+Vue &Tailwind stack and I found it extremely satisfying n matured solution for a full stack developer.

Open source means a community driven thing..its not about pleasing everyone.

Changes are always awesome…

What a normal user needs that a simple thing in a simple way, I’m sure not everyone is like to use so many packages for basic things..

Vue, inertia, tailwind, even livewire is still a nightmare for many of starters…

hypernxf 2021-01-09 17:10:52
Lol you can always strip everything down and just use laravel for a start

Learn to have a mind of your own and give honest feedback to people who are doing things for the community. Taylor is a millionaire because of us. Not blindly following him when he’s steering the ecosystem into an opinionated direction is good for the community. That’s how open source communities work

We need the scaffolding. It should be practical, usable and consistent with what Laravel has been till recently

Last time checked , Laravel is an open source project, you can fork it and develop in your own if you have any disagreement with current one. If your path is good , more people may join with you.

JeevaniSM 2021-01-09 17:27:02
PHP has other frameworks such as symphony, another awesome enterprise level framework .

If you need a rock solid vey bare metal framework, you can go with Code igniter

Hi, Laravel beginTransaction is not working. Please support me.
DB::enableQueryLog();

DB::beginTransaction();
// DB::connection(‘mysql’)->beginTransaction();

try {
//Do something
// DB::table(‘users’)->where(‘id’,719)->update([‘name’=>’Transaction33’]);
$user = User::find(719);
$user->name = ‘Test 555’;
$user->save();
throw new Exception(‘Exception message’);
$d = DB::table(‘users’)->where(‘id’,719)->get();
DB::commit();

} catch (Exception $e) { //Exception
DB::rollback();
dd($e->getMessage());
}
dd(DB::getQueryLog(),$d)

So we shouldn’t give core developers feedback when we’re not happy with something? Do you fork all open source projects that you use? I don’t think you people have been in the FOSS community for long. You don’t know how these things work

There are many ways of doing it. I often have a method called dropdown() in the model. The method returns an associative array that I can use with the Form::select()
