In situations like bulk delete or update or even mysqldump activity there will be a lock and can this lock duration be reduced by increasing the memory or other server parameters?

Hello guys can someone suggest for a database of size 1TB with max_connections set to 1500 and average connections per day being 500 what should be the ideal innodb_buffer_pool_size. Currently the pool size is 4gb and the Linux server ram is 8gb. It is a community server. And we are facing lock issues and slowness issues daily

Maybe the reason is not pool buffer?

ideally you should be able to fit all your active dataset to the buffer pool. if you have issues with ram you might want to use nmve

Create a variety of CSV files using the Python data generator script provided along with
the lab exercises. The default script creates CSV files with only integer columns, but you
can use the script as a template to create CSVs with string valued columns too. Create
corresponding tables in MySQL and import data of these CSVs into the respective tables.

Lock issues are not related to days cache size.
You should check your applications logic for the ways you access parts of you DB.

But suppose there is a table of 30gb and there since buffer pool is only 4gb the whole table is not being able to read at a time then won’t mysql thread create a lock on the table until the query is executed. Increasing the buffer can reduce the lock time right??

Deb_575 2021-06-15 06:07:25
Also will changing the isolation level from repeatable read to read committed will help in this situation?

No, this logic is wrong

In any DB it is a normal situation when not all data is in the data cache. This doesn’t matter

If not what I can do to reduce the duration? Locks are supposed to happen I want to tune so that the duration of the lock can be reduced

You don’t have to master mysql to become an expert data analyst
You need to learn other tools as well apart from sql like power bi or tableau or something open source for data analysis

Intermediate understanding of sql is enough
Concentrate more on tableau and power bi which ever is your choice
