mysql> select count(1) FROM tbl_campdata nolock WHERE DATE(entrydate) < DATE(DATE_ADD(NOW(),INTERVAL -15 DAY));
+———-+
| count(1) |
+———-+
| 5925646 |
+———-+
1 row in set (2.32 sec)

If this is really date and time, not pure date, You must first calculate date interval start and finish, then use “between” condition on your field.

This way the index on the field will more probably be used

Hey guys, may I ask you a very simple question? I am very new with MySQL. Today I installed MySQL from MS website and tried to start the server. I put mysqld in the command line but I had a error that it could not connect to server. How do I proceed? Can someone help me?

Your story is fantastic…

But fund something like “getting started guide” on my SQL site (btw it is oracle, not Microsoft) and follow its guidelines.

It is simple and easy.

But don’t start mySQL daemon manually from the command line, it is only for developers of mySQL dbms, mainly

… The story is not fantastic it is frustrating :/

In the description of the installation it says to use the command line… Therefore I did so. How can I use it without command line? I wanted to develop my own database so I am a developer (but yet in the very beginning!)

Probably you are doing chapter 4.
But you should do char 5 or 6 or 7 or 8.

Because ch 4 is mainly for developers of mySQL itself, or for profound specialists.

I suppose you don’t need installation from source

PS 2022-01-29 07:41:02
Yes, from the offical site. I wonder why it is so complicated… I changed the path as it was written in the manual and then opened cmd to type everything in… I stated with MySQL and it said there was no connection to localhost:3306. Then I typed in mysqld and it showed error…
MasterZiv 2022-01-29 07:42:24
Windows, apparently

I want to build my own database, so I should do chapter 5-8? I don’t see the difference as I am developing my own database.. So I am developer

No, you should do “installing mySQL on windows”

No, you develop your DB, it is most intended use of mySQL.
But installing from source code is for developers of mySQL DBMS, the software, not the database

Thank you all for trying to help me! I did not want to bother you much, but I am really lost.

I don’t understand too be honest…

Yes! And when I push the button “go to download page” it directs me directly to 32bit… Nonetheless, I also tried that one

One develops the software of mySQL, its code. Another develops database using pre-built mySQL server. You apparently want the second case.

So, finally.

Find msi installer of mySQL for Windows, 64 bit, and install it, all installation goes automatically and very easy. All done in GUI and without any need to start mySQL daemon manually

Unfortunately it does not go automatically and it is not very easy. I am really lost as I normally have no problems with that.
I did everything you told me again. I downloaded the installer, it was a zip file. I executed this and followed instructions on chapter 2. Chapter 5 did not solve anything. It says there must be a .ini-file. Unfortunately no ini-file is generated nor in any folder.

I also used Google for help. I followed all instructions, but it does not work. I cannot even install it. 😳

MySQL Installer Method

The simplest and recommended method is to download MySQL Installer (for Windows) and let it install and configure a specific version of MySQL Server as follows:

Download MySQL Installer from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/installer/ and execute it.

https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/
MasterZiv 2022-01-29 12:58:01
Fuck that is why… They do not let you download MSI installer for 64 bit for Win anymore…

If so, and you can’t find MSI for Win 64 – install MSI 32 bit, I think, as you are a beginner, this will be more then enough for you.
